A Journey Through Time: From Indus Valley Civilization to Modern Metropolis

The history of Haryana dates back many centuries. According to archeological evidence, the Indus Valley Civilization coincided with the flourishing of communities in the region as early as 3300 BC. The State saw the emergence and fall of several mighty civilizations over the ages, notably the Kuru Kingdom, whose fabled struggle serves as the central narrative of the epic Mahabharata. The region experienced a time of peace and prosperity brought about by Ashoka the Great’s Mauryan Empire.

A turning point was reached when the British arrived in the 18th century and the State joined British India. Punjab was divided into the state of Haryana in 1966, following India’s independence in 1947.

An Evolving Culinary Delights: From Traditional Fare to Global Influences

The food of Haryana is a delicious fusion of flavour and simplicity. The abundance of ghee (clarified butter) and spices in Haryanvi cooking is well-known, and it is influenced by Punjabi food and the availability of seasonal ingredients. Three main foods are Sarson ka Saag (mustard greens stew), Dal Makhani (black lentil curry), and Bajra roti (flatbread made from millet flour).

Although people still enjoy their traditional food, Haryana’s food landscape is changing. Large cities are seeing an increase in the number of dining alternatives available at restaurants thanks to the introduction of global influences.
